Snow Front for The Joy Of Sets Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to another Joy Of Sets Blog Hop.  If you are starting here with me or joining me from the lovely Libby Fens, welcome!  This month our challenge was to create a tri-fold card and I'm sure you will find lots of inspiration as you hop along with us.

Image may contain: text

I received a delivery from Mr Brown earlier this week and I have a stack of brand new stamp sets that I ordered from the Autumn / Winter catalogue. I knew as soon as I saw the catalogue that I needed this stamp set called Snow Front!

Craftyduckydoodah, Snow Front, Bridge Fold Card, Christmas 2019, Brayered Background, Stampin' Up! UK Independent Demonstrator Susan Simpson, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store,

When I get the chance I will pull another stamp set off my shelf called Waterfront - its in the same style as Snow Front and I am sure they will work beautifully together.

Here are the colours I used for my project.

My project is not strictly a tri-fold card, it is in fact known as a Bridge Fold.  However, it does give you three panels to decorate or, if you are like me and get carried away you can decorate the two inside side panels too!

Of course I left my project until the very last minute again - sigh!  I even forgot that I had intended to watercolour the panels (hence the water colour card) until I was stamping the panel for the reverse and discovered my stamp was still wet from cleaning!

I confess I am not entirely pleased with my project but, I will make another version at some point just to prove I have learnt from my mistakes.

Here is the completed card and envelope.

Craftyduckydoodah, Snow Front, Bridge Fold Card, Christmas 2019, Brayered Background, Stampin' Up! UK Independent Demonstrator Susan Simpson, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store,

I took many photos showing how I made my project, far too many for one post,  so I will do another post next week, probably on Tuesday, giving more details - I hope you will visit again to see how I put this project together.

Next on the hop is Rebecca-Jo Unwin - I can't wait to see her project!

No photo description available.

Don't forget to leave comments as you hop around with us to let us know what you think of our projects!

Happy hopping.

Playful Penguins for Coffee & Cards

This week we will be using a new stamp set for our Coffee & Cards projects called Playful Penguins.  As I sat making these projects, it's a beautiful sunny Autumn afternoon; not the best time to be playing with penguins I think!  I had no problems coming up with projects for this week as the penguins are just so cute.  I love the detail on the images and, I know I will be using this set a lot.

Craftyduckydoodah, Playful Penguins, Christmas 2019, StampinUp! UK Independent Demonstrator Susan Simpson, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store,

This week we will be making a start on our Christmas cards using a bright colour combination.

We will be stamping, fussy cutting, die cutting, brayering and creating a water colour background too.  There will be lots of glitter around - you have been warned!

I will also show you a couple of different ways to add 'snow' to a brayered background.

Here are the projects we will be making.

Woven Heirlooms - stepped up

Here are the details for our final project this week using the Woven Heirlooms bundle of stamps, dies and 3d embossing folders.

I am loving the new In Colours; particularly Seaside Spray and Pretty Peacock (I'm sure you have already guessed)!

One colour I have not used very much is Terracotta Tile so, I thought I had better take it off my shelf and use it.

I don't often used Very Vanilla card either - I much prefer Whisper White but the VV goes so well with Terracotta Tile.

We used the Heirloom die and 3d embossing folder to create a frame and used a sponge dauber to gently add some ink to the embossed areas to add definition.

Craftyduckydoodah, Woven Heirlooms, Heirloom Frames Dies & 3D Embossing Folder, StampinUp! UK Independent Demonstrator Susan Simpson, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store, Thinking Of You,

Top Tip
Less is more with this technique - it's easier to add more ink until you reach the desired intensity than to try and remove it.

The lovely sentiment has been stamped in the centre of the card; how I wish my handwriting looked like this!

Craftyduckydoodah, Woven Heirlooms, Heirloom Frames Dies & 3D Embossing Folder, StampinUp! UK Independent Demonstrator Susan Simpson, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store, Thinking Of You,

Using Floral Essence and Painted Harvest, we stamped an assortment of flowers and leaves using first and second generation ink.  The flowers have been fussy cut out and we used the leaf punch.

The frame has been adhered using dimensionals, the flowers with dimensionals and Tombow and lastly, the leaves have been curled and shaped and adhered with Tombow.

A trio of pearls provides a finishing touch.  Well it would have done if we hadn't been so busy chatting this afternoon that I completely forgot about the pearls - sorry ladies!

The inside of the card and the envelope have stamped borders again, using first and second generation ink.

As I make several of each project during the course of the week I decided to change things around a bit today.

Craftyduckydoodah, Woven Heirlooms, Heirloom Frames Dies & 3D Embossing Folder, StampinUp! UK Independent Demonstrator Susan Simpson, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store, Thinking Of You,

I changed the colour of the frame, added and an extra flower too.  I think, looking at the photo, I might add a single leaf between the two flowers at the front.  You may also have spotted, as I mentioned above, the absence of any pearls!

Thanks to all the lovely ladies who joined me this week, it was lovely catching up with you all.  Next week we will be using a stamp set called Playful Penguins.  I will share details of the projects over the weekend.

Have a crafty weekend!

Woven Heirlooms - quick & simple

Here are the details for our first project this week using items from the Woven Threads Suite which can be found on page 12 in the Annual Catalogue.

I am still on my mission to use up my stash of Designer Series Paper.  The Woven Threads DSP is made up of all the new In Colours; its hard to choose a favourite as they are all so lovely and can be used in many different ways.

Craftyduckydoodah, Woven Heirlooms, Heirloom Frames Dies & 3D Embossing Folder, Susan Simpson UK Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store,

Our project starts with a 10.5 x 14.5cm thick WW card.  We used a 10 x 14cm piece of DSP which was adhered to the card front using Tombow.

We used the Square Heirloom Frame Die to cut a piece of Seaside Spray card and then used the coordinating 3d Embossing Folder to add detail.

Craftyduckydoodah, Woven Heirlooms, Heirloom Frames Dies & 3D Embossing Folder, Susan Simpson UK Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store,

A piece of WW card, cut slightly larger than the aperture in the frame has been stamped with this lovely sentiment in Night of Navy ink.

Craftyduckydoodah, Woven Heirlooms, Heirloom Frames Dies & 3D Embossing Folder, Susan Simpson UK Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store,

The longer border stamp to add a little more detail at the top and bottom of the panel.

We wrapped some of the gorgeous Woven Threads Trim around the bottom of the panel too.

We used the Foam Adhesive Strips on the back of the frame and then adhered the panel making sure it was straight.  (Don't ask)!

I love this trim but you need to be careful how you cut it as it can fray.

The assembled panel was then adhered to the card front with Tombow.

A trio of my favourite sequins added a bit of sparkle.  I love these sequins; there are around 750 in each tiny pot and I am on my third pot already!

Here is the completed card and envelope.  The large border image has been stamped along the edge of the envelope and the inside of the card too.

Joy Of Sets Tic TaC Toe Challenge #JOSTTT009

Hello and welcome to another Joy Of Sets Tic Tac Toe Challenge.  This month our grid has been chosen by Fiona.

I had a plan for my project this month, I really did but a recent surgery put me behind, even more than I usually am.  Then I find out yesterday that the hop has been brought forward by 5 days - panic!!  However a plan b presented itself!   On Sunday I found out that two friends; Andrew and Sammi had become engaged!  So I will be using the Love, Lace, and Die Cuts line of the grid this month.

Here are the colours I am using for my project.

I knew straight away which stamp set I wanted to use too which is unusual for me.  The sentiment I wanted to use is 'meant to be' and, would you believe it, there is a stamp set with the same name!

#JOSTTT009, Craftyduckydoodah, Free As A Bird, Meant to Be, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store, Susan Simpson UK Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

My project started with a panel of Shimmery White card 5mm smaller than a Sahara Sand card base.  I embossed the panel with the Subtle embossing folder and adhered to the base with dimensionals.

I then used the coordinating Stitched Be Mine dies to cut out a decorative heart frame and adhered with dabs of Tombow.  I confess I have a weakness for stitched edge dies!

#JOSTTT009, Craftyduckydoodah, Free As A Bird, Meant to Be, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store, Susan Simpson UK Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

I had a look through my box of left over bits and bobs and found some flowers I had stamped some time ago using a stamp set called Free As A Bird.  They were even stamped on the same Shimmery White card - how lucky was that?  So, I fussy cut them out and grabbed my Stampin' Blends and coloured them in.  I used both light and dark in Seaside Spray and Granny Apple Green.

I curled and shaped the leaves and arranged with the flowers adhering with Tombow and mini dimensionals.

#JOSTTT009, Craftyduckydoodah, Free As A Bird, Meant to Be, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store, Susan Simpson UK Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

I also added pearls to the centre of the flowers.

It was at this point that I realised I was missing one of the elements of the challenge - the lace!

Unfortunately I couldn't find the lace I was looking for but I did find this.

#JOSTTT009, Craftyduckydoodah, Free As A Bird, Meant to Be, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store, Susan Simpson UK Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

How gorgeous is this Sahara Sand Woven Threads Trim?    I completely forgot I had it!

So, here is my completed card.

#JOSTTT009, Craftyduckydoodah, Free As A Bird, Meant to Be, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store, Susan Simpson UK Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

However, I had a problem.  I did not like it and was not happy with how it had turned out!

So I put it to one side and worked on the inside of the card.

#JOSTTT009, Craftyduckydoodah, Free As A Bird, Meant to Be, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store, Susan Simpson UK Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

I cut an insert from Shimmery White card 5mm smaller than the card.  I stamped the sentiment I mentioned earlier and added a scattering of tiny flower buds which have been coloured with the Stampin' Blends.

I had another look at my card and I still didn't like it so I decorated the envelope.

#JOSTTT009, Craftyduckydoodah, Free As A Bird, Meant to Be, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store, Susan Simpson UK Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

At this point I realised I really did not like my card so I thought I had better do something about it.

I pulled the panel off; still not sure if it was brave or foolish thing to do but it came off with the dimensionals intact!  I then removed the trim which frayed horribly, cut 5mm off the top and side of my panel being very careful to damage any of the flowers.

I cut a panel of Seaside Spray card 5mm smaller than the card base and adhered with dimensionals.  I then added some more trim to my rescued panel, added Tombow on top of the now unsticky dimensionals and adhered to the Seaside Spray panel.

Here is the completed card and envelope.  I'm pleased to say I think it looks much better now - what a difference an extra layer makes.

Craftyduckydoodah, #JOSTTT009, Meant to Be, Free As A Bird, Susan Simpson UK Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store,

This card will be winging its way to Andrew and Sammi to wish them a lifetime of happiness together.  I wonder if they need some help with the Wedding invites ...?

Why not head over the the Joy of Sets Blog to see what the rest of the Design Team have made of this fun challenge HERE, there are some lovely projects this month.

If you haven't tried a Tic Tac Toe challenge before or a box card why not give it a go; if you are stuck in a rut or suffering from crafter's block you might just find it useful!  You can also enter our challenge and share your project - there is a chance you could be our next guest designer and hop along with us next month!

Details of the products I used for this project can be found below.

Thanks again to Fiona for keeping us DT Members organised and for choosing our grid this month!

Happy crafting!
