Butterfly Basics with Watermelon Wonder
Hello - sometimes I sit at my desk surrounded by lots of lovely stamps sets and I feel that I overdose on the number of crafting possibilities. This happened to me today; I just didn't know what to do next - I stamped a few images and was not happy with the results, I picked up this and that and got absolutely nowhere!
There is also the possibility that it had something to do with the heatwave we are experiencing here in the UK at the moment!
So I made myself a nice cool drink and sat browsing through the internet waiting for inspiration to strike. I came upon a card made by a very talented lady called Kim Jolley - I was really taken with one of her designs using Butterfly Basics (it can be found here) and Watermelon Wonder.
So I decided to recreate it myself - here is my version minus the vellum behind the butterfly that Kim used:

So I decided to recreate it myself - here is my version minus the vellum behind the butterfly that Kim used:
The card uses a watercolour resist technique that I haven't used for several years (why not?)! I used watercolour paper and started by stamping the fern image with Versamark ink and then heat embossing with white Stampin' Emboss Powder.
I used an Aqua Painter to wet the paper and then picked up some Watermelon Wonder ink and sort of smooshed it around until I was happy with the result (the embossed image resists the ink). After allowing the paper to dry,I stamped a selection of images from Butterfly Basics with a touch of Gorgeous Grunge added at the edges to balance things out.
I was so pleased with the result that I decided to make some more cards with a few little tweaks of my own - this one with the addition of some linen thread:
And this one with the addition of some Candy Dots:
Up close, so that you can hopefully see the resist embossing a little clearer:
And finally, I decided to do a version with some coiled paper strips that were on my scrap pile (waste not, want not):
I can't actually decide which version I like best as I like them all for different reasons! Please leave a comment to let me know which you prefer and why.
Products I used for these cards can be found below. Thanks for looking at my Blog.
