Stampin' Up! A Unicorn for a special birthday!

Hello, after a lovely Bank Holiday spent in Bury St Edmunds with my daughter Rosie, we arrived home with some special presents for my niece Francessca who will be celebrating her birthday very soon.

Apparently she has a bit of a thing for unicorns at the moment!

Didn't we do well?  It took Rosie absolutely ages to set the time on the watch and I confess that after putting some batteries into unicorn lights to make sure they worked, I think I want some too!

It was Rosie's idea to make a card with a unicorn on - but of course, I would be the one to make it.

As you can imagine, I have many, many stamps but do I have a single stamp of a unicorn?  Of course I don't!  I thought about stamping a horse and adding a horn but thought that might look a bit silly.  So I decided to have a look on Pinterest for some inspiration.  Unicorns are everywhere!  Then I stumbled across a post from a fellow SU Demonstrator, Monica Gale.  Wow - I was blown away by the stunning invitations she made for her grand daughter.

You can see Monica's project here.

I had several practice attempts at the eyelashes before I was happy with the result.  Using the die from the Seasonal Layers Framelits as a template was very quick and simple using a Stampin' Write Marker.

I punched lots of tiny flowers punched using a variety of colours - I might have got a little carried away with all the jewels and pearls I added to decorate around the horn which was made from a triangle cut from a scrap of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.

The ears were made with two tiny dies from the Swirly Scribbles Thinlets Dies - they were intended to be leaves but they also make fantastic ears.

I used my poky tool to shape the ears before attaching - I think they might just be my favourite element of this card!

I used the swirly background stamp from Star of Light to add a bit of extra sparkliness, highlighting with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and even more jewels.

The pink cheeks were created with a Sponge Dauber and some Powder Pink ink.

I made a quick tag for the present - unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of the present.  I wrapped the gifts in tissue paper and added very generous sprinkles of glitter and sequins before wrapping everything in brown paper. Some more of the now sadly retired sparkly ribbon was tied around and used to attach the gift tag.

Here is the completed card and envelope.  What do you think - it is unicorny enough?  I would love you to leave a comment below.

When Rosie saw the card she came up with the idea of using false eyelashes ...

The envelope and the inside were also decorated with the same image from Star of Light and I might have added some more jewels to the inside too.

I think this is sparkliest/blingiest (are these actual words?) card I have ever made.

One of the many things I love about crafting is that you can create something special and unique and I know that Francessca will love this card.  Not too sure that my sister will be impressed by all the glitter and sequins - lets just call it revenge!!
