Celebrate Sunflowers - Hopping Around The World

Hello and welcome to another Hopping Around The World Blog Hop.  We have a real treat for you this month as we are showcasing our favourite items from the upcoming Annual Catalogue.

If you are joining me from Melanie in Germany or starting here with me, welcome!  Why not grab a cuppa and hop around the world with us from the comfort of your own home.  We have lots of ideas and inspiration for you this month using soon to be released items.

I have always had a bit of a thing for sunflowers and have such fond memories of growing them each year when my children were little so I knew I had to have the Celebrate Sunflowers bundle that is available from the 3rd June!

Here is my project; a special card made to celebrate my Aunty Doreen's birthday!

Here are the colours I used for my project.

You will need:

21 cm x 14.5 cm ww thick - scored at 10.5 cm
14.5 cm x 10.5 cm piece of Designer Series Paper
1 cm strip of ww thick for the sentiment
Small pieces of ww thick, Bumble Bee, Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso and Just Jade for die cutting

Die cut pieces:

Well, my first dilemma was which colours should I use for the sunflower!

The flower on the left has a Daffodil Delight base with Bumble Bee detail on top whilst the flower on the right has a Bumble Bee base with Daffodil Delight details.

With the help of facebook and my crafty ladies, I went for the flower with the Bumble Bee base as the colours seemed to pop more.

Once that decision was made I changed my mind about the centre of the flower!  I used a scrap of Soft Suede and die cut the centre of the flower.  I then snipped the centre out carefully with scissors.

I used Shaded Spruce ink to stamp some leaves on Just Jade card and die cut out with the coordinating dies.  I curled and shaped each leaf with the end of my poky tool.

I also cut a ww thick shape using the largest Stitched So Sweetly die.  I trimmed off a strip from one end.  I had intended to use this strip for the sentiment but I changed my mind about that too!

To assemble the flower:
I used Tombow around the centre of the Daffodil Delight details to attach to the base.  Trying to adhere the Soft Suede centre (again with Tombow) was very tricky to align!  The Early Espresso centre has been adhered with a dimensional.

Top Tip

I spent ages trying to align all the tiny dots in the centre of the flower; in the end I found it easier to align the hole in the centre of the flower.

The sentiment:

I stamped the sentiment using Soft Suede ink and trimmed one end to form a flag shape.  I then adhered a piece of ribbon (available 3rd June) on the reverse using double sided tape.  This lovely sentiment is also from another new stamp set called Blossoms In Bloom.

To assemble:
Adhere the DSP to the card base.  Adhered the ww panel with dimensionals aligning carefully with the top of the card.  Arrange the flower and the leaves and adhere using a mix of Tombow and dimensionals.  I used Tombow to adhere the left of the sentiment strip to the flower centre and a dimensional on the right hand side.

The details:

I stamped a couple of sunflowers along the edge of the envelope and the inside of the card using Soft Suede ink.

Here is the completed card and envelope.  The trio of Gilded Gems provided a touch of sparkle.

The card arrived in good time and I am pleased to report that it was given a thumbs up by my Aunt and is in pride of place on her fireplace!

Next up is Sheila Turner from Canada - I wonder what her favourites are.

Thanks for hopping along with us, I hope you enjoyed my project.

Wherever you are in the World, stay safe and well.

Crafty hugs,

Susan xx
