Tasteful Touches - Kre8tors Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to another Kre8tors blog hop.  We are a group of crafters from all around the world who love to share our passion for paper crafting.  Grab a cuppa and hop around with us - our challenge this month was to create an Anniversary project.

I have a very special project to share today; one I made for a friend who will soon be celebrating her first Wedding Anniversary.  The gift for a 1st Anniversary is paper, that was the easy part.  The colour of the couple's wedding flowers was yellow again, easy.  The final part of the commission was that the couple would also be celebrating the 5th anniversary since they met hence the 'wood' element of my project.

I knew immediately which Suite I would use for this special project - the In Good Taste Suite which can be found on page 122 of the Annual Catalogue.

The items in this suite make it so easy to combine beautiful layers and textures on projects which is something I love to do - I have been using the embossing folder and the DSP rather a lot lately!

Here is my project:

You will need:
29 cm x 10.5 cm ww thick scored at 14.5 cm
10 cm x 14 cm ww thick
Small piece of ww thick for stamping
16 cm x 5.5 cm Designer Series Paper (DSP) - for the envelope
6 cm x 10 cm piece of DSP - for the sentiment
1 cm x 14.5 cm strip of DSP - for the inside

The background:
I used the Tasteful Textile embossing folder to add to texture the ww panel.  I used a piece of my favourite Polka Dot ribbon across the front, adhering on the back with double sided tape.

The stamping:
I used Memento ink to stamp a flower and a sprig of leaves.  I fussy cut them out and coloured with Stampin' Blends.

The sentiment:
I used a small piece of DSP with one of the Tasteful Label dies.  I then stamped the sentiment towards the bottom of the label using Early Espresso ink and adhered using dimensionals.

The details:
I used some of the In Good Taste elements that are part of this suite.  I thought about adding some colour to the leaves using a Stampin' Blend but changed my mind bearing in mind that this card would be sent to a man, I wanted to keep things simple!  I used Granny Apple Green (light) on the piece below.

Top Tip #1
It is better to use a dabbing motion to add colour to textured elements. If you don't you risk fraying the nib of your pens.

Top Tip #2
You can snip the wooden elements to create smaller pieces - I would not recommend using your best scissors though!

To assemble:
Adhere the background panel to the card base with dimensionals.  Arrange the sprig and the wooden elements before adhering the flower.  I used mini glue dots to adhere the wooden elements and Tombow and dimensionals for the flower and the sprig.  I also snipped into the stamped sprig of leaves to create two pieces.

As a finishing touch I added three tiny wooden elements, adhering with mini dimensionals.

The inside:
I added a strip of DSP along the bottom edge with Tombow.

The completed project:
I covered the flap of the envelope with a piece of DSP to give a taste of what's inside.  I really like this card; its still quite pretty but not too pretty to give to a man I think.

My friend was very pleased with my interpretation of her commission, she especially liked the sentiment and the wooden elements.

A simple change in the colour scheme and this card would be perfect for a feminine card too.

Next up is Anastasia Radloff, I can't wait to see her project.

If you get lost along the way a list of hoppers can be found below.

Thanks for hopping along with us.
