Snowflake Splendour - Stampers Showcase Blog Hop
Hello and welcome to another Stampers Showcase Blog Hop. This month we are sharing projects using either heat or dry embossing. If you are starting here with me or have hopped over from the fabulous Wendy Lee in the USA, welcome; we have lots of embossed inspiration for you this month.
I can still remember the excitement I felt the first time I heat embossed; stamp, sprinkle some powder, heat and watch the transformation = magic!!
That said, I like dry embossing too so I decided to use both types on my project using items from the Snowflake Splendour Suite which can be found on page 36 of the mini catalogue.
The Winter Snow embossing folder is one of my favourites, it is so pretty and I love the mix of delicate snowflakes.
The colours I used:
You will need:
21 x cm x 14.5 cm ww thick - scored at 10.5 cm
10 cm x 14 cm ww thick
10 cm x 3 cm ww thick
small pieces of ww thick and Night of Navy for die cutting
The dry embossing:
I smeared Night of Navy ink on the inside of the Winter Snow embossing folder. Dry emboss the 10 cm x 14 cm piece of card. Inking the folder adds ink to the card at the same time as embossing it.
Top Tip #1
Don't forget to wash you folder as soon as you can otherwise it may stain. Staining doesn't effect the folder it just doesn't look very nice!
I also created embossed panels from ww and Night of Navy but did not use them for my project (see below). I had a very crafty indecisive day if you know what I mean?
Top Tip #2
I used my heat tool to make sure the dry the ink on the embossed panel before the next step.
The heat embossing:
Take the embossed card and smear Versamark ink in all around the edges. Sprinkle the panel with silver embossing powder and heat seat. Shock horror - I did not use my embossing buddy! I was aiming for a shabby/vintage style so all the little specks just added to the effect. (If you prefer a neater finish you can of course use the embossing buddy).
Top Tip #3
If you find you have too much embossing powder on the panel simply brush off until you are happy with the result.

The die cutting:
Cut a selection of snowflakes using ww thick and Night of Navy card. Take each snowflake and gently dab into the Versamark ink pad randomly. Sprinkle with embossing powder and heat set.
I love the vintage/shabby chic effect this creates with the snowflakes - so pretty!
Top Tip #4
I used an old pair of tweezers to hold the snowflakes whilst heating as I did not want to burn my fingers!
The sentiment:
I stamped the sentiment using Night of Navy ink. Carefully ink around the edges using as above using Versamark and heat emboss with silver powder.
To assemble:
Adhere the double embossed panel to the card front using Tombow and press down firmly to adhere. Adhere the sentiment with dimensionals. I positioned two larger snowflakes behind the sentiment, adhering with Tombow. I adhered one of the smaller snowflakes to the sentiment panel with a tiny piece of dimensional.
The details:
I added of my favourite blue jewels to the centre of the snowflakes.
The inside/envelope:
I used some of the Night of Navy snowflakes to decorate the inside of the card adhering with tiny dabs of Tombow.
The completed project:
Two background panels and some snowflakes left over for other projects too. Sometimes my indecisiveness is useful!
Next up is Sue Vine from Australia, I can't wait to see her project and wonder which technique she chose to use.
Thanks for hopping along with us - don't forget to leave comments as you hop around - we like that! Thanks also to Dana for keeping us organised. I'm not sure who chose the theme for this month but thank you to for reminding how much I love heat embossing!
