Whale Done - Inside Shadow Box Card Stampers Showcase

Hello and welcome to another Stampers Showcase Blog Hop.  If you are starting here with me or joining from my crafty friend Mo and her lovely project, welcome we have lots of inspiration for you this month.

This month we are sharing our favourite products from the new Annual Catalogue.  It was a tough decision to make to choose just one favourite;  I seem to have a new favourite every week with all the fabulous new goodies don't you?

I have been using a stamp and punch bundle called Whale Done recently and I had an idea of a project I wanted to create.

Craftyduckydoodah, Whale Done, Whale Of A Time SUite, Stampin' Up,

There is the most stunning collection of Designer Series Paper that is part of the Whale Of A Time Suite.  I love the vibrant colours and the designs are amazing.  I have already ordered an extra pack as I don't want to run out of any of the sheets!

As usual I was short on time but I found a really good tutorial on Pinterest (there is a link further down this post for you) showing how to make a shadow box card.

Here is my project:

This would make a perfectly good project but the real WOW happens when you open the card.

The colours I used:

8 1/2" x 5 1/2" ww thick - you will need 2 pieces
10.5 cm x 14.5 cm and 9 cm x 12 cm pieces of Designer Series Paper (DSP)
Small pieces of ww thick for stamping and die cutting

Tutorial link:
Jennifer McGuire has a fabulous tutorial showing how to make this style of card that you can watch HERE.  I used the Stitched Shapes largest oval die to create the aperture on my project.  You might want to open the tutorial in a different browser so that you can have another look at it as you start to fully assemble your project.  Shadow Box Cards are very easy to make once you have made your first one!

The Front:
Cover the front of the card base with the piece of DSP.  Using the die cut oval left over from creating the card base, I stamped a little scene using the images in the stamp set.  I stamped the sentiment in Pacific Point ink and used Calypso Coral, Just Jade and Blackberry Bliss for the other images.  I adhered some of the lovely shell sequins with dabs of Tombow.  The stamped panel was then adhered to the card front with dimensionals.

The inside:
This style of card offers so many different possibilities for decorating and adding fun elements.

I stamped the sentiment first (love a good pun!) and the added some seaweed, coral and fishes across the bottom of the card.

I used Granny Apple Green ink to stamp a turtle, Pretty Peacock for the Whale and I also some stamped seaweed using Just Jade.  I used the punch for the whale and fussy cut the other elements.

The background:
I used Calypso Coral ink to stamp some little fishes onto the DSP panel and adhered with Tombow.

To assemble:
Follow the instructions from Jennifer to assemble the card base.  I used Tombow on the tail of the whale to adhere to the card base and for the turtle, tiny dabs of Tombow on his tale and flipper.  I tucked part of the seaweed behind the oval and adhered with a dab of Tombow on the the base.

You can see the dimension in this project from above but, best of all this card folds flat for posting!

The reverse:
If you wish, before assembling you can also stamp a little scene on the reverse of the card - this is where you can write your greeting or message.  Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo but I am sure you get my drift.

The detail:
I added some tiny sequins to the DSP that was showing behind the aperture for a bit of sparkle.  You could also use Wink of Stella to highlight other areas but unfortunately I couldn't find mine!

Completed card and envelope:
Of course I had to decorate the envelope too!  If you have seen my posts from earlier this month you will know how excited I was to discover that the little fishes can be stamped in both directions - the SU designers are so clever!

Craftyduckydoodah, Whale Done, Whale Of A Time Suite, Stampin' Up,

I hope you enjoyed my project, shadow box cards are so much fun to make.  If you haven't tried one before why not give it a go?

Next up is Rochelle from Australia who I am sure has a great project to share with us.
