Best Thoughts for a happy retirement (and a sneaky peak)!

Hello, I was having coffee (and cake, of course) with a crafty friend this morning and we were both saying that we have had enough of crafting for Christmas and that we can't wait to work on something different for a change.

The Spring/Summer Catalogue will be launching at the beginning of January and there are so many fabulous new products - my pre order has arrived and I hope to get a chance to do some planning and preparation for next years classes and workshops over the next few weeks.  If you have placed an order with me during the last six months you will receive a copy in the post - probably tomorrow morning!  If you would like a catalogue and you don't already have a Demonstrator, I would love to be yours - just send me your contact details and I will pop one in the post for you.

I am travelling up to Leeds tomorrow and will be visiting family and friends over the weekend as well as getting a much needed hair cut before Christmas!

I will be staying with my best friend Lesley and her husband so it will be a late, late night catch up session on Saturday.  Lesley will be retiring from work next week the lucky lady so, I thought I would make her a little something to mark the occasion - thankfully not with a Christmas theme!

Her living room is decorated in a Hello Honey and Crumb Cake colour scheme which made it a perfect starting point for me!

I have a Hostess stamp set called Best Thoughts and to date, I have only used the background stamp.  In the set is a lovely sentiment saying 'the best is yet to come' which I thought was quite apt on this occasion.

I prepared and scuffed the edges of several layers of Whisper White and Crumb Cake cardstock as my base.  On the last layer I used an assortment of stamps; I had to use Gorgeous Grunge and a new set called Timeless Textures that will be available in January! This new set works so well with my favourite Gorgeous Grunge and I know if will become another firm favourite too!

I created depth using just two colours of ink and using second and third generation stamping to create a 'tone on tone' effect.

For the flower, I got out my alcohol pens and had some fun colouring in - not used these pens for ages.  I found some tiny little accent beads in a tortoiseshell mix at the back of a cupboard and applied them using the Fine-Tip Glue Pen.  I love this glue; it was perfect for applying the tiny, tiny beads in little raised clusters.

This particular piece started out as a card but, as Lesley always keeps the cards I make for her I thought it would nice to put something in a frame for change.

Here is the finished piece before I placed it in the frame:

And finally, the framed version (RIBA frame from IKEA):

I really enjoyed this project; I hope Lesley likes it too - so much so in fact that I plan to make one for me in a Lost Lagoon/Crumb Cake combination to put in my bedroom - good job I bought extra frames on my last trip to IKEA!

Thanks so much for looking at my Blog today, I hope you enjoyed my project; if you need any of the products to create it - I would love to be your demonstrator!  Simply use my "shop with me" button or click on the catalogue links on the right.  Alternatively, contact me and I would be happy to place your order for you.

All orders over £20 (excluding postage) will receive a little thank you from me if you use the current Hostess Code: 7MMUGX97 (please remember to allow me to access your contact details). For orders over £150 please do not use the Hostess Code to ensure that you receive the benefits.
