Honey Bee - stepped up

Here are the details for our second project this week using a lovely stamp and die bundle called Honey Bee.  As soon as this bundle arrived it was destined to be used for a shaker card; I went straight to Amazon and bought some gold and black sequins

The details on the images in this stamp set are stunning, particularly the little bee - look at the details on the wings.

Our second project this week is a different size to the ones we normally make - the card measures 10 cm x 10 cm and has been cut from Mint Macaron cardstock.  I had to use non Stampin' Up! envelopes too - boy do I appreciate the quality of the SU envelopes!

I cut the following pieces of card:

1 WW thick 9 cm x 9cm
2 WW 9.5 cm x 9.5 cm (one for the insert and one for the front)

You will also need a small piece of thick WW for the die cut elements.

We adhered one of the  9.5 cm pieces to the front of the card.  We used Daffodil Delight ink to stamp the beehive onto the thick piece of WW and cut out with the coordinating die.

The next step is to adhere the beehive to the card front.  We placed the thick ww layer onto the card (no glue at this point) and then adhered the beehive in the aperture with Tombow.

We then took the thick ww piece and, working on the reverse we adhered a piece of window sheet big enough to cover the aperture.

Using a piece of scrap card we cut out the hexagon frame - not sure what to call it really but you get what I mean (I hope)?  Using very tiny dabs of Tombow this was adhered to the reverse of the aperture.  Don't worry about the gaps at the bottom - we covered them later!

Have you come across the rather marvellous Foam Adhesive Strips (page 183 A/C) yet?  I use them a lot and, they are just perfect for shaker cards!

We used a single piece to form a frame around the beehive.  Now for some reason, I placed the foam strip in the photo in a square shape.  There is no need to do this at all.

At our C & C sessions we placed the foam strips around the edge of the beehive.

This means that you don't have to add as many sequins to achieve a decent 'shake'.

Top Tip #1
You could also add the little hexagons to the sequins - they are too cute to throw away!

The next step is to place sequins on the beehive, peel off the back of the foam strips and adhered.

Top Tip #2
I find it easier to align things like this if I stand up.

To create the two coloured flowers we used Stampin' Write Markers in Mint Macaron and Daffodil Delight.  We used what I call the Darth Vader technique!  Using the brush tip of the pens, colour the stamp and then 'huff' to re moisten the ink before stamping.

The flowers have been die cut.  We added some extra colour to the little flowers with a Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blend.   We also stamped (Stazon) and die cut one of the bees and added some coloured stripes to him.

The next step is to place sequins on the beehive, peel off the back of the foam strips and adhered.

The flowers have been adhered around the edge of the hive with Tombow and covered those gaps I mentioned above.

This lovely sentiment has been stamped onto a piece of thick ww 2cm wide with Stazon and the ends flagged.

The sentiment and the bee have both been adhered with Dimensionals.

Here is the completed card and envelope.  We stamped and coloured some bees on the envelope and on the insert too.

Top Tip # 3
If you want to colour the bees on the envelope, place a scrap of card on the inside first otherwise the Stampin' Blends will bleed through and make a mess.

Thanks to everyone who joined me this week, it was lovely to craft with you all again.  The little bees proved to be very popular!

Next week we will be using a stamp set called The Gang's All Meer that can be yours for free  as part of Sale-A-Bration.  I will share details of the projects over the weekend.

I will be back on Sunday hopping for the first time with a very talented group known as the Kre8tors - I will be using a brand new Suite of products called Best Dressed!

Have a crafty weekend!

Susan xx
