Stampin' Up! Merry Patterns - SBTD 10/2017

Hello and welcome to another Stampers by the Dozen Blog Hop!  If this is your first stop on the hop, welcome and thanks for joining us.  Or, if you have hopped on from Judi, her project coloured with the new Stampin' Blends was fabulous.

Stampin' Up! UK Independent Demonstrator Susan Simpson, Craftyduckydoodah!, Merry Patterns, SBTD Blog Hop, Supplies available 24/7 from my online store,

This month our theme is 'masculine' featuring cards for the men in our lives - something that most of us can struggle with, at least sometimes.

I have been using the exclusive stamp set called Merry Patterns for my Coffee & Cards sessions recently (you can see the post here).  We have been making Christmas cards suitable for male recipients.  At a session earlier this week, one of my crafty ladies mentioned that she thought one of our projects would be suitable as a Birthday card too ... That sent an idea coursing through my mind as I have a couple of male birthday cards to make leading up to Christmas.

I decided to challenge myself to use the Merry Patterns stamp set again - just to show that the images are not just for Christmas.

For my first project I thought I would keep things simple and just use one colour - Soft Suede.

I stamped a simple, repetitive background with the outline stamp, added a strip of card wrapped with burlap ribbon and added to a Whisper White card base.

I used on of my all time favourite Framelits sets - (Stitched Shapes) as a base for the deer.  I decided to offset the deer to one side - I quite like elements on my cards to do this as I think it adds extra dimension to projects.

The deer outline was stamped with Black Memento and the inner with Soft Suede and then, carefully cut out.

Here is the completed card and envelope which also has a deer on the front.

For my second project I thought I would add some colour!

Again, I stamped my own background but this time used the the first three colours above with the inner deer stamp.

I stamped the deer (as above), then stamped a multi coloured jumper inking the stamp with my Stampin' Write Markers.  A little fussy cutting and then the jumper was adhered in place.  I was tempted to add a bit of sparkle to the jumper; thankfully  I managed to stop myself just in time as the person who will receive this card would definitely not appreciate it!

I love tiny sentiments - they are so useful and they don't overpower your card! This stamp is from a set called Happy Birthday Gorgeous.

Here is the completed card and envelope.

Here is a final look at both cards together - such a versatile stamp set and one that I will be using again as I have to confess that I have not even inked up the candles in this set yet!
