Stampin' Up! Joy of Sets Blog Hop - Annual Catalogue 2018

Hello and welcome to another Joy of Sets Blog Hop!  We are a group of crafters' from around the world who love to share our love of papercrafting.  If you have hopped over from Jenny or if you are starting here, welcome - I hope you enjoy our hop and find lots of inspiration.

Our brief this month was to use anything in the Annual Catalogue.  WOW - so many choices as I have many favourites in there.  One of my new team members kindly lent me this stamp and framelit bundle  so I thought I would use it for my project - thank you Sarah!

Its a bundle called Follow Your Dreams - love a bundle and the 10% saving!

A friend of mine has an amazing picture which I love - the colours, the randomness and in fact, everything about it!  For a long time I have wanted to attempt to create something similar ...

These are the colours I decided to use.

I measured a square the size of the aperture on the frame I wanted to use on some Watercolour Paper and spritzed it with some water.

I used Aqua Painters and ink squeezed onto the ink pad lids and then splattered droplets onto the damp paper.

This what I ended up with ...

Not quite as effective as the picture that provided my inspiration but given that that picture is A3 size and mine will only be 12 x 12 cm, I am quite pleased with it.

Whenever I get (or borrow) a new bundle I like to have a play and just see what each element can be used for.

I might have got a bit carried away with some of the dies as I ended up with lots of spares.  Is it just me or does anyone else think all the tiny waste pieces look like sweets that used to be called Tutti Fruitti?  Perhaps it is just the colours ...

I heat embossed one of the dream catchers on vellum with some Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder and cut it out.  I 'dabbed' some Tombow on the back with my finger and adhered to the background.

Then I had to decide which other die cut elements to use.  I die cut the word dream in silver and black and offset them slightly.

I posed a question on my facebook page as I was unsure how to bling it up a bit.

Based on the sound advice of a couple of my ducklings (team members), I changed the word dream by adding another silver layer on top.

Adding an extra layer added a little more depth to the word which makes it more noticeable.  I added some jewels and also splattered some Wink of Stella for a bit of sparkle.

This is what the finished piece looked like before I placed it in the frame.  Of course you can't see the Wink of Stella; it is very difficult to photograph - you will have to trust me that it looks great!

I love how the colours have mingled together on the background - I think the right hand side dried out too quickly so perhaps more water next time ...

Here is the finished picture - I use of a lot of these RIBA frames from IKEA so I had a choice of black or white!

I will definitely try and recreate a background like this again but perhaps next time I will add more water ... watch this space!
