Butterfly Brilliance - Stamping INKspirations
Hello and welcome to another blog hop with the team from Stamping INKspirations! This month our theme is monochrome using shades of blue and I will be using a stamp set called Butterfly Brilliance for my project.
I love all things blue and found it very difficult to choose which blue to use. However, I have just purchased this fabulous re useable tumbler from Stampin' Up! in one of the new In-Colours - Tahitian Tide and so, my decision was made!
I decided to use the Butterfly Brilliance stamp and coordinating dies for my project.
I love these realistically styled butterflies and I have used this set a lot - I was delighted to discover that it is still available in the new Annual Catalogue too!
Here is my project:
A simple card with no layers which is very unusual for me!
You will need:
21 cm x 14.5 cm Basic White Thick (BWT) scored at 10.5 cm
BWT 1 A4 sheet for the butterflies
Vellum - half an A4 sheet
The colours I used:
A single colour for our monochrome themed hop - I think this may well be my favourite new In-Colour (at least for now)!
The butterfly embellishment:
I used the whole image to stamp lots of butterflies onto BWT card with Tahitian Tide ink and then cut out with the coordinating die. I then die cut the butterflies again, twice, using BWT card. I stamped the butterflies again onto vellum using Tahitian Tide ink and added clear embossing powder on top and then heat set. The vellum butterflies when then cut out with the coordinating dies.
The background:
I used a blending brush to add some colour to the front of the card and then stamped some splodges towards the top of the card using Tahitian Tide ink. I used the same ink to stamp a sentiment at the bottom of the card. The splodges and the sentiment are from a stamp set called Nature's Prints.
Top Tip:
I used second generation ink for the splodges (stamped off) for a soft look as my ink pad is very juicy!
To assemble:
Decide which butterfly you want to use! This lovely stamp creates 6 different ones at a time. Adhere two of the BWT butterflies together and then adhere a stamped butterfly on top using Tombow. The vellum butterfly has been adhered as a final layer but has only been adhered along the body. The wings have been curled and shaped to add dimension.
Top Tip:
I added some rhinestones along the body of the butterfly to hide the adhesive.
The detail:
I was quite excited to discover that the lovely new In-Colour Metallic Woven Ribbon frays beautifully! You can also stretch and pull it in various directions too to create a fun embellishment.
Top Tip:
I used my poky tool to tease the woven strands apart.
I used two glue dots on the back of the butterfly to attach the Woven Thread and then used Tombow to adhere the butterfly to the card front.
The sentiment:
I love mixed font sentiments, do you? I will be using this one and the others in the Nature's Prints stamp set a lot!
The inside/envelope:
I added the left over ink on the blending brush to add a little colour to the corner of the inside and the envelope and then stamped some splodges.
The completed project:
I love the freshness of this card, the stacked up butterfly adds dimension in a different way to using the usual dimensionals that I really like - I have been stacking layers a lot recently!
Of course I had other butterflies left so used them to make more cards - I will use the remaining butterflies another day.
As well as buying one of the Tahitian Tide tumblers for myself I also bought one for one of my lovely team members who recently promoted to Bronze Elite - the fabulously creative Liz Easthope.
Next up is Danielle Kassing, I wonder which blue she had chosen for her project? Click the next button to find out. If you get lost along the way a list of participants can be found below.
